Chapter Eleven

Adam rolled onto his back, breathing so heavily he figured the neighbors could hear him.

Kat lay beside him, her breathing almost as loud as his.

Was she shaking?

Without thought, he pulled her against him, filled with triumph when she didn’t fight him. But it wasn’t close enough. With a little maneuvering, he got her draped over his chest, her head on his shoulder, her arm across his chest, and her leg over his thigh.

And Tristan should be at her back.

Shit. Shit.

He needed to be much more coherent to deal with the guilt building in his gut. So for the time being, he might as well simply enjoy the feel of her naked body against his. Enjoy the aftershock of pleasure, the adrenaline high that made him feel like he’d jumped out of a plane.

And enjoy the fact that she’d beaten him to the punch and had come to him first.

“I was planning to track you down today,” he said, wanting her to know. “To apologize for my behavior last night.”

Her breath hitched before she released it on a sigh. “I guess there’s enough blame to go around. I don’t enjoy being such a bitch.”

“You’re not a bitch.”

“Hmm. You don’t know me well enough to say that conclusively.”

Okay, he’d give her that one. “Then let me get to know you better. Let us get to know you better.”

He wondered how she’d react to him bringing Tristan back into the equation, and when she stiffened, he thought he’d totally fucked this up.

“Does this...what we just did...will this be a problem for Tristan?”

Of course she’d nailed the one part of the equation he really didn’t have an answer for. Tristan had been half in love with this woman for years. Hell, he’d been obsessing over her for a decade, at least.

And Adam had taken her alone. Would Tris have a problem? “It shouldn’t be.”

“But it could be?”

Yeah, it might. But that was something Tris and Adam had to work out. Kat shouldn’t have to worry about it.

“No. Because Tris and I won’t let it.”

Silence fell again, but he knew she was chewing something over in her brain. He let her go for a minute. If she didn’t come out and ask what she wanted, he’d push her into it. She needed to know she could ask him...ask them anything. Needed to realize that for this relationship to work, she had to be an equal base.

And when she’d shown up earlier today, he’d realized she was stronger than he’d given her credit for last night.

Just when he thought he was going to have to prod her, she pushed herself into a seated position beside him. She covered her lap with the rumpled sheets but didn’t go completely prude and cover her breasts. Which was a good thing because she had beautiful breasts. Small but firm and high. If he propped himself on one elbow, he’d be at the perfect level to lean forward and take one of those pale pink nipples between his teeth.
